Ellie Wisely with one of her landlubber friends.
I fell in love with scuba in Hawaii on a family vacation when I was 10 years old and I saw an Open Water class in the pool at the resort where we were staying. I finally got certified in Harrisonburg Virginia when I was 12 years old, and my first dives were in a quarry. My dad was a diver and had his own gear, so I would put on his ancient and too-large-for-me gear and sit on the bottom of our swimming pool and just breathe. Since then I've been diving in Hawaii, the Florida Keys, Virginia, Egypt, Jordan, the British Virgin Islands, Australia, Belize, Honduras and now Mexico!
I love diving because it's a chance to explore new worlds. It's as relaxing as yoga only without all of that pesky gravity. There's always something new to learn or improve your skills at underwater. And it's an opportunity to meet some really great people!
I moved to Tucson with my bird, Makani, in September 2011 and I'm very excited to be working as a Divemaster for Planet Scuba.
If I were a sea creature, I would be a whale, because I'm highly migratory yet very social.
